Greens powders are a mash-up of greens, vegetables, probiotics, phytochemicals, digestive enzymes, and other ingredients. The most common compounds in greens powders include spirulina, chlorella, and chicory root.

Spirulina

Spirulina is a cyanobacterium that grows in freshwater habitats such as lakes, rivers, and ponds. Spirulina is rich in vitamins and minerals, and it can help with muscular strength and endurance. It also lowers blood sugar, improves gut health, and decreases LDL cholesterol levels.

Chlorella

Chlorella is a freshwater algae with a single cell that belongs to the Chlorellaceae family. Chlorella contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It can help you get rid of toxins, boost your immune system, and improve your cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Chicory Root

Chicory root, which belongs to the Asteraceae family, contains 68 percent inulin by dry weight. Inulin is a prebiotic that can be found in a number of fruits and vegetables. The stomach does not digest or absorb it. It lingers in the intestines and aids in the growth of certain beneficial microbes.

Chicory root can help with bowel movements, lower ghrelin levels, and improve glucose regulation.
